There are 5 different Golf Club types you will find in any average golf bag. In this article we will tell you what you need to know about the different types of golf clubs and their uses. Keep in mind that on average you can find 14 golf clubs in a set.
This type of golf clubs are called “woods” because they used to be made of that material and they have the largest clubheads when compared to the other golf clubs in a set. They are normally hollow and have round edges. These are great to achieve speed and long distance. The “driver” and the “fairway” are also included int his group.
The driver is the longest club in the set, and it is quite hard to master because it has the lowest loft.
A fairway is another type of wood club you may wish to add to your set. If you are just starting, having one 3 Wood in your set will be enough. As you gain more experience, you may one to add more woods to your set. More experienced players may own a 5 Wood.
There are 7 irons in a set and they are numbered as: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9. They look thinner than woods, and they are nick named “blades”. Iron clubs have different angles called “lofts”. As you go up in the iron number, the loft increases and the length of the shaft goes down. The shaft is the part of the golf club between the clubhead and the grip.
The hybrid clubhead is a mix between a wood and an iron golf club. They are also called “rescue” clubs and they can replace irons. As such, they are numbered (as the irons are) after the iron each of them actually replaces. For example 2-hybrid, 3-hybrid, etc. It is common for golfers to use hybrids as a replacement of long irons (20, 3-, 4- or 5-irons).
These type of golf clubs include 4 different ones: pitching wedge, gap wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge. They represent a sub-set of irons, with a bit more of an angle. Wedges will be the highest lofted golf clubs you can find. The best use is for short shots to the green, for chips and pitches around greens and for getting the ball out of sand bunkers.
The job of the putter is help golfers in the putting green by knocking the ball into the whole.
There are different types of golf Putters as designs vary in shape and length. This gives golfers plenty of choice when it comes down to choosing the best putter for them. In essence all of them have a small loft, between 3 and 4 degrees.
Putters can come with the following clubhead:
The standard length of a putter is approx. 81 to 91cm from end-to-end, which is typically used by beginners.
There are also belly putters, where the wrip ends in the player’s waist.
Finally Broomstick putters are long sticks (ranging between 100 and 127 cm), which enable golfers to play upright.
